Beyond its natural beauty, Crosby proudly preserves its cultural heritage through its numerous museums The Milford Mine Memorial Park in Crosby, MN 56441, marks the location of Minnesota's most devastating mining disaster. On February 5, 1924, tragedy struck the Cuyuna Iron Range when a mine shaft collapse resulted in the loss of 41 miners' lives. At approximately 3:30 in the afternoon, the failure caused a deluge of water and mud to inundate the underground tunnels, claiming the lives of these 41 men. The 200-foot Milford Mine had multiple levels, with only one shaft leading to the surface. Tragically, only seven men managed to escape and reach the surface alive.
