"THERE MUST BE A BETTER WAY"

Camping In Cuyuna 2013

NECESSITY IS THE MOTHER OF INVENTION

True North Basecamp is rooted in family. We had our Eureka moment in September 2013, when friends Jeff Bajek and Dan Jurek were camping, biking, and adventuring in Cuyuna with their sons Jack and Aiden. Their first night was dank, rainy and frighteningly cold. It took a little of the wind out of their sails.

MOM ALWAYS KNOWS BEST

We’re not sure who said it first (we’ll leave it to Jeff and Dan to fight it out), but one of them said: “there must be a better way.”

Not long after that cold and muddy trip, Jeff and Dan began their hunt. They were looking for the perfect space to build bespoke lodging in the Cuyuna region. A few months later, they found forty acres of wild, picturesque land connected to the trail system and the sparkling mine lakes. Thus, True North Basecamp was born.

JEFF RODE A SCHWINN & DAN A HUFFY
It’s a wonder they get along.  Dan was an early adopter of the soft tail, and in his younger years, you could (try) to catch him riding a Huffy Mono-Shock around the streets of Coon Rapids, MN.

Jeff, on the other hand, spent his younger years cruising around Hayward, Wisconsin on a Schwinn Predator back in the day.  It’s safe to say we cast no judgments on your bike choices – but if you do bump into the two friends during your visit, pick your bike battles wisely.
